Mat Creedon

Mat Creedon sounds like a new kind of pop.... a "Strange pop" The perfect mix of quirky and cool, alluringly understated. A dazzling blend of Pavement's twisted pop sensibilities with Beck's swagger & the sexiness of Air. If you need a visual, think teddy bear with a switchblade. Although been described as “strange pop”, any attempt to pin it down to simply this, seems near sighted. Displaying a skilful ability to seamlessly interchange between musical genres moving smoothly from pop, to rock, to jazz to psychedelia, to ambient to electronica and back again, whilst still remaining consistent and listen-able. With an uncanny ability to choose the right sound for the right song, without it coming across as pretentious attempts at cool. The sound is irresistible and infectious, oozing pop sensibility with the greatest respect for the audience’s intelligence. Rock solid pop perfectly finessed to give the listener a new adventure every 16 bars. And it still has the ability to make you want to smile like an idiot. Its like that point in Radiohead’s career when they chose to go down the road that was Kid A, Mat kinda took the other road and Zappa hitched a ride. To sums up the sound perfectly it's obviously very diverse, yet the theme of "timeless summer drenched pop" is consistent, making it comparable to the likes of "The White Album" & "Pet Sounds". But more Australian twilight barbeque than The Beach Boys. Mat Creedon's sound is without doubt a special new kind of pop. Familiar enough to suck you in and interesting enough to keep you, well... interested.
