Gavin Bellour, currently based in New York, was born and raised near Seattle, Washington. He learned to play folk guitar as a kid and quickly became proficient in writing and singing his own songs. Initially having been influenced by pop radio and local Seattle sounds, he later delved into more classic folk, new folk-ish pop and world music which rounded out the overall style of sounds and arrangements he uses in his music today. His influences include JJ Cale, Spoon, Belle & Sebastian, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Burt Bacharach, and Wilco. His first project, the LA-based Million/Billion was 'discovered' by Tony Hoffer (Depeche Mode, Beck, Fratellis, Kooks, etc.) and Bellour performed opening spots for international music icon Beck and such acclaimed artists as Ray Lamontagne, Gomez, Shooter Jennings, Keaton Simons and others while completing two US tours and prestigious month-long residencies at L.A.'s Hotel CafÈ and Tangiers. His debut album with Million Billion, "Ready.Fire.Aim," produced by veteran Karl Derfler (No Doubt, Dave Matthews), elicited a write-up in The Wall Street Journal comparing them to Bob Dylan, and a four-star review from URB Magazine saying, "million / billion throws in cynical folk-rock with country that lands a bull's eye," and called their "rhythmical guitar and raucous performance," hard to pass up. Recently, Gavin has been working on a solo full-length, tentatively titled “Papillon King,”. The album is being co-produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Air) with contributors including Gavin Haag (The Blacks) in its ranks. The album, most of which was written in a cabin in Puget Sound, has a folk/americana sound which Bellour describes as, "…like hearing covers of songs you know you've heard before but can't quite place, as played by a bunch of random misfits on your front porch while the sun goes down." Bellour says, "It's good driving music and I like to think it's got a unique musical perspective ... but of course i'm a little biased." With an established fan base and a new album on the way, Gavin Bellour’s latest foray is poised to be a hit.
