Things have changed a lot for me in the last few years. In 2011, I was doing music full time – recording, performing, teaching voice, and songwriting. Then I met my husband, moved to Colorado and started a new life. I knew the change would unsettle me, but more importantly, I knew it would invigorate me. One of the realizations I’ve had since I moved west with Brent is that I enjoy being home on weekends. I would never have imagined that I would ever give up a regular performance schedule, but for now, it’s really nice not to pack-up my car after lunch on Saturday, drive a hundred miles to wherever to do a show, pack-up again and drive home alone in the middle of the night. I miss singing for people as much as I knew I would, but the traveling part is not missed at all. To date, I haven’t figured out how to do the one thing that I thought I was born to do: sing for others. There’s a lot of sadness around it that reminds me of grief, because it is grief. But like grief, I know there is an evolution and that some day, hopefully sooner rather than later, I will sing publicly again. Because of where I am now, describing my past accomplishments feels unnecessary. I hope that you will explore my music here, read my essays and my book. I love them all and am proud to have been able to publish them. 2013 is a big year for me. I’m working on a batch of new songs with my dear friends Peter Tomlinson and Lou Pappas. The music is 90% recorded. The two of them are waiting patiently for me to complete the lyrics and record the vocals. I’m in the process of scheduling the mixes for mid-summer. The pressure of a date to finish will motivate me, so if all goes well, we’ll have a new recording by summer’s end. It’s called Shorts because most of the songs are short. In between songwriting and recording, I write books, essays and blog posts, all of which you can find here. Thank you as always for taking the time to listen or to read.
